The unemployed would fare better if they relied on the generosity of people an not the government. If 51% of the people relied on the government for their welfare, we would cease to be a republic and become ruled by a tyrannical government.
Part of the reason republicans were seen as doing nothing is (1) they were reacting to the socialist agenda and defending their ground and (2) they couldn’t very well get anything done with a democratic president and a democratic congress. Why do you think there is so much passion on the conservative side now? Becase we realize what we could be losing and what we have already lost.
