The ideal for an individual or a society would be to have a balance of time perspectives. If you’re exclusively past-oriented, you never enjoy the present or plan your future. If you’re exclusively present-oriented, you have neither past nor future. If you’re exclusively future-oriented, you’re always striving for goals but never enjoying the fruits of achievement them. The ideal would be to know the past, be aware of the present and strive for a better future. (Yes, I know, this is obvious and should go without saying.)
