Hat tips of the week

Hat tip to my friend Hal Bauer for the Good Current Reading menu link to TPP: A Worldwide Corporate Power Grab of Enormous Proportions, which tells about secret negotiations for the Trans-Pacific Partnership agreement, a super-NAFTA with the power to over-ride national laws.

Hat tip to my friend Bill Elwell for the Good Current Reading menu link to Celebrating discovery: It’s time to get serious about science, which points out that scientific research on crazy-sounding subjects often has a great deal of practical value.  There is too much ignorant ridicule of science and scientists, and not enough awareness of the value of research.

My friend Michael J. Brown was a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, N.C., and while there wrote for Dissent magazine about idealistic young people who support President Obama.

DNC Dispatches: Who Built It?

DNC Dispatches: “Respect, Empower, Include”

DNC Dispatches: Working, Protesting Crying

I hope these young people find a leader who is worthy of their hope.  I don’t think President Obama is that leader.  I would be pleased to be proved wrong about that, but I don’t think I will be.
