Some time after this interview, the Clinton administration and other governments pressured Sudan to expel Osama bin Laden as a terrorist.

Osama then relocated to Afghanistan, and the rest is history.

At the time of Rumseld’s visit, the governments of the United States and Iraq had a common enemy in Iran.

It is an illustration of the old principle, The enemy of my enemy is not necessarily my friend.

    Its chilling seeing old articles like this one. Almost as crazy as the photo of Rumsfeld shaking hands with Saddam. Good find.
