It is interesting to speculate whether any of these statistics would be better or worse if Black America really were a separate nation. If this question is whether Black America would be better off if it were to secede somehow, the answer is unknowable without knowing the terms of separation. The hypothetical new nation might have a just claim for reparations, like Israel’s claim on Germany.
If instead the question is whether Black America would have better off if it had become a separate nation in an earlier period of history—if, for example, John Brown’s plan for a slave rebellion had succeeded, or if Africans had come to the New World as colonists rather than slaves—that, too, is unknowable, although an even more interesting topic for speculation.

If Africans had arrived as colonists its still likely they would have brought slaves. Still, interesting for speculation.
