Three reasons for hopefulness

1.  The rate of killings of black people by police is going down.

I was surprised at the information in the graph, which I found on the Avedon’s Sideshow web site.   Of course the black death rate due to “legal intervention” is still double the white death rate.  I hope the trend continues.

2.  The violent crime rate in the United States is going down.

It’s true that the United States still has a lot more violent crime than Britain, France, Canada or other comparable countries, but the decline is a reason for hopefulness.

3.  The rates of American teenage pregnancy, birth and abortion are going down.

Like President Bill Clinton, I believe abortion should be safe, legal and rare.
