Donald Trump is the last Republican standing

trumpclinton,eononline.rs_1024x759-150709052426-1024.Donald-Trump-Hillary-Clinton-JR-70915_copyIt looks as if we Americans in November will have a choice between Hillary Clinton, a defender of the status quo, and Donald Trump, a right-wing populist.

I don’t think Donald Trump can be elected President, but, then again, I didn’t think, six months ago, that he would become the Republican nominee.

If he is elected, I know who the Democratic establishment will blame.  It will be Bernie Sanders, for arousing false hopes.

Their underlying assumption is that conservative Republicans have the power to bring about change, but we liberal Democrats do not, and therefore the best we can hope for is to ward off the Donald Trumps.   This attitude makes the Donald Trumps inevitable.

I wouldn’t be surprised if President Trump nominates Ted Cruz to the Supreme Court.

I know you don’t like the idea of lesser of two evils but the statement implies the reality that no one is perfect and that, to use a religious term, we are all sinners.Bernie is not perfect and deserves criticism of his attacks on Hillary. I disagree with you about your generalizations of Hillary supporters. There is apparently enough discontent in this country that a rational response may not be possible. To use another religious term, we really want a savior. Neither Hillary of Bernie are that. And for that matter neither is Trump.

I’ve had the same thought about the Big Nomination. Either Ted Cruz or Ben Carson becoming one of The Supremes is enough to give me nightmares. Crazy people. I may have to hold my nose and go vote – for Not-Trump – no matter how disgusted I am with the prospect of more-of-the-same. Arrrgh.

I think the Democratic Party is missing the point of Bernie’s popularity – and may lose the election – because they don’t understand that we need to challenge the dishonest “reformer” with a substantially more honest one of our own. I think the only way to stop this Bully Boy is to keep aggressively exposing him for the destructive, skillfully manipulative, and megalomaniacal sociopath that he is, AND offer a better solution to those of us who think that the current status quo is unacceptable. I don’t think “Less Toxic” by itself is going to work.

The “Little People” on both sides want change because they want their remaining lives to work. Not hard to understand – if you want to see.

Come to think of it, though, I have been sadly astonished by how persistently stupid the supposedly smart people who hold Party offices, or pundit about this or that, have really been. This train wreck has been a long time coming, I’ve seen it chugging ever closer for years, and it’s got lots of handy historical precedent. And from my point of view, both sides have made the mess.

What this election has confirmed for me is that the Democratic Party is every bit as self-serving and corruptly protective of its privilege as the Republican Party, and neither side really gives a rat’s ass about the good of the country.

We really, really need a different system.

To paraphrase Big Bill: “It’s (each person’s) economy, stupid.”

Or, from my Darwinian point of view, it’s all about the food.
