Six harsh truths for the new year

The world only cares about what it can get from you.

The hippies were wrong.

What you produce does not have to make money, but it does have to benefit people.

You hate yourself because you don’t do anything.

What you are inside only matters because of what it makes you do.

Everything inside you will fight improvement.

And, no, I don’t think there is any conflict between advocating social reform on the one hand and advocating self-improvement and self-reliance.

People have to deal with a lot of bad things that are not their fault, but they are their problem, in that they can’t look to anyone except themselves to deal with them.

A better world is possible.  The whole point of civilization is to make the world less unforgiving.  But the better world is not going to come into existence by itself, and it is not going to come into existence anytime soon.

Also: I don’t hold myself up as a role model.   Don’t do as I do.  Do as David Wong says.
